Professional Experience
Professor Nadey Hakim is a world-renowned surgeon, specialising in bariatrics as well as kidney and pancreas transplantation. He currently serves as Professor of Transplantation Surgery at Imperial College London and Professor of General Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic London.
He pioneered the first pancreas transplant programme in south-east England, and was part of the international team that performed the world’s first successful arm transplant. A prolific academic, Professor Hakim has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers and 25 textbooks, and is a sought-after speaker on the global stage.
Having received his medical degree from Paris Descartes University – where he was named Laureate of the Faculty of Medicine – Professor Hakim completed surgical training at Guy’s Hospital in London, followed by fellowships at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota. He later earned his PhD from the University of London.
Professor Hakim holds numerous honorary and visiting professorships worldwide and has been recognised with prestigious awards including the Max Thorek Professorship of Surgery and the J. Wesley Alexander Prize. He is a former World President of the International College of Surgeons, Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine, and Vice President of the British Red Cross.
An active contributor to education and research, he continues to shape international surgical standards through his leadership roles, including President Elect of The Transplantation Society. In 2016, he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur by the French government.
